Explore the Plains and Hills
  • Isle Crémieu and Pays des Couleurs

Right on the boundary with the Rhône department, the L'Isle Crémieu and Pays des Couleurs area is full of lakes and underground caves.

It is also an area with a very rich architectural heritage, of which the mediaeval town of Crémieu is the chief ambassador.

  • Pays de Bièvre-Valloire

From the Bièvre plain to the Chambarran Natural Park, this area with its changing colours has been the birthplace of renowned men such as the bandit Mandrin or Berlioz, the famous composer Berlioz.

It now profits from a strategic geographic situation between Grenoble, Lyon, Valence and the Saint-Geoirs airport, which is close by.

  • Pays Voironnais

In the foothills of the Chartreuse you will find the Pays Voironnais.

This area has become well-known thanks to the archaeological digs by the Lac de Paladru and the Caves de Chartreuse where the famous Carthusian liqueur is still distilled.

  • Porte des Alpes et Vals du Dauphiné

This area runs along the meanders of the River Bourbre between Lyon and Grenoble.

Hidden in the folds of its hills is a traditional adobe architectural style, which has been revived in the contemporary architecture of the L'Isle-d'Abeau new town.

  • South Grésivaudan

This area is famous for gastronomic reasons, with its walnuts, Saint-Marcellin cheese and ravioles from Royans.

The hilly scenery goes on as far as the Drôme and in this area treasures of traditional and mediaeval architecture can be found, such as the Abbaye de Saint-Antoine.

  • Vienne and the Pays Roussillonnais

From the hills of the Pays Roussillonnais to the town of Vienne, all this area is washed by the waters of the Rhône.

This is an area of much historical interest, with many remains dating from the Gallo-Roman and Mediaeval periods, such as the old theatre in Vienne. Every summer for the last 20 years, it becomes an important musical centre with the "Jazz à Vienne" Festival..
