If you want to know how to choose where to go for your holidays, here are the secrets of a method that no guidebook will tell you about.
First of all, choose a mountain. Not too high, so that you can get to the summits with your children, and walk right round it. Then, put it down in the middle of the Alps. Believe me, it will feel good there.

Then, cover the mountain with every shade of green. Don't hesitate to use the colours that you like. Then, ask the sun to come out. There's nothing better for thrilling them. After that, make this a territory for animals, but also for people.

In winter, ask the snow to fall and cover everything in white. Your request will not be a surprise, it happens every year.
Finally, in the middle of all that add in some men and women who know the meaning of hospitality, people who are proud to tell you about their region and get you to enjoy their cooking.

Now, do as I do, and let what you have just thought up sweep into you. All that you see is real. And this reality already even has a name: the VERCORS.

The Vercors is an immense Natural Park surrounded by mountains. Some are high and majestic, others are smaller. As far as scenery is concerned, the Vercors is full of surprises. Here, there's a cliff on which a steep road has been built, over to the right, a plateau at the foot of snowy hills. Further away, a canyon with a mountain stream flowing through it. Further away still, some of the most beautiful caves in Europe. Winter or summer, everything here is designed to thrill your senses. And also to be enjoyed by the animals.

As for your favourite sports, there's no point in trying to choose, you can do all of them. Often in the fir tree forests, sometimes on the trail of animals or in the wide open spaces of the High Plateaus.

• From the Choranche caves to the legends of the Wolf Burners, from the railway gardens to the sites related to the Resistance, from the Magic of the Automatons to the Mont Aiguille, the Vercors is a region which gives you everything in an explosion of cliffs, roads clinging to the mountainside and overflowing torrents.
